The Laboratory for Resource Optimization, Operational Simulation and Decision Support (LORDE), coordinated by Professor Virgílio José Martins Ferreira Filho, was founded in 2002 with the objective of centralizing and supporting research carried out in Production Engineering and Petroleum Engineering at COPPE and the Polytechnic School related to the topics of mathematical modelling, optimization and simulation in decision problems.
The main objective of the Laboratory is the development of methodologies and intelligent tools, based on data and rules, based on the analysis of uncertainties and supported in a high-performance computing environment, for the planning and integrated management of operations and logistics, aiming to optimize resources. Chain, increasing its efficiency and effectiveness.
These methodologies are developed for strategic, tactical and operational planning, with a vision of applications, mostly, in the oil, natural gas and biofuels chain, providing better conditions for competitiveness, profitability and efficiency to national companies and the sector.
The Laboratory includes two major areas of interest that address the following themes: (i) Development of methodologies, based on data, to identify, characterize, qualify and estimate the uncertainties present in the production process; (ii) Modeling via mathematical programming, systems simulation and optimization under uncertainty for the design of logistics networks and Integrated operations and logistics management.
